In Non-UEFI machines, we can use GRUB2 to make USB stick bootable. Then, we can use 'ntldr' command in the GRUB2 to boot Windows from USB. Enable the boot flag on the target partition of the USB drive. It can be easily done with the use of the tool called 'GParted'. It is a GUI tool for drive partitioning. Therefore, you can format bootable flash drive as usual in some cases. On Windows alone, there are two bootable USB drive format utilities: Disk Management and Diskpart in Command Prompt. Plug in the bootable USB drive when you running Windows and then type “diskmgmt.msc” in Run box to start Disk Management.

I ran GParted from this USB drive on another desktop, so I know it's not the fault of the USB drive.
I get the main boot screen asking me to confirm loading up Gparted.
If I choose any of the options (including failsafe) I get the following error message:
This text then repeats.
Any ideas?
I tried a few other Linux distros, but no luck. None of the others gave much of an error message, and GParted is the distro I need.

The problem is, you boot from the flashdrive in UEFI mode. If you load the boot menu at the start, choose the flashdrive boot in legacy mode and will be fine. In the boot menu the flashdrive should appear twice, once in UEFI once in Legacy. Usually the UEFI is the default.
